Graeme Hawker joined the first Siemens European Innovation Conference as a joint event between industry and academia, looking at new ways to deploy advanced low-carbon technologies at scale. The first day involved networking with academic colleagues from Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Scandinavia including a challenging task to design and build a new wind turbine concept while being as efficient with construction materials as possible.

The second day looked at Siemens’ next generation of hydrogen-ready gas turbines and included tours of the impressive manufacturing facilities and new electrolyser gigawatt manufacturing plant.

Graeme Hawker noted that this was a great opportunity to get to grips with the scale and nature of the supply chains involved in the next decade of the low-carbon transition, and to make new partnerships with European colleagues tackling the same challenges on industrial and gas decarbonisation as we face within the UK networks.
