Congratulations to Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer of Heriot-Watt University on her prestigious appointment to the UK Government’s Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC)!

Appointed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Professor Maroto-Valer joins a panel of 16 leading academic and industry experts who will provide vital scientific and evidence-based insights to shape the UK’s energy security and net zero strategies — including the ambitious goal of achieving clean power by 2030.

In addition to this new role, Professor Maroto-Valer serves as:

  • Deputy Principal for Global Sustainability at Heriot-Watt University
  • Director of the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC)
  • Co-Investigator of Ensign’s WP5 Industrial Cluster Sub Digital Twin
