Dr. Qiteng HongDr Qiteng Hong, Co-Investigator on the Ensign project, played a leading role at the eGrid 2025 conference, hosted at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK. He co-moderated a high-profile panel discussion alongside Professor Xiongfei Wang (Tsinghua University), titled:
“Protection of Converter-Dominated Power Networks: Lessons Learned, Current Practices, and Future Direction.”
The panel featured expert contributions from John W Wright and Dr Yin Sun, and addressed one of the most urgent challenges in modern power systems: how the increasing penetration of inverter-based resources is transforming fault characteristics and challenging the effectiveness of traditional protection schemes.
The session brought together perspectives from across the energy sector, including system operators, network and generation owners, relay manufacturers, and academic researchers. Discussions focused on current risks, practical solutions in deployment, and the critical need to evolve standards and testing methodologies to keep pace with the energy transition.
The panel was part of a broader programme at eGrid 2025, which focused on the challenges and innovations shaping the future of electrical grids. More details about the session can be found on the EGrid 2025 programme page.
