The Ensign project team welcomed stakeholders, partners, and collaborators to its Dissemination Event on Thursday 23 April, marking an important milestone in the programme’s journey to support the future of energy networks through digital innovation.

The event featured presentations from all five Ensign Work Packages, each providing an overview of progress to date, upcoming activities, and the anticipated impact of their work. Together, the sessions demonstrated how individual research strands are contributing to a whole system digital twin approach, designed to support smarter, more flexible, and more resilient networks.

A highlight of the afternoon was a session from Alex Campbell and Matthew McClure of SPEN, who set the Ensign project within the context of SPEN’s wider strategic ambitions. Their presentation highlighted how Ensign is helping to inform SPEN’s innovation strategy, while also acting as a catalyst for further collaborative research and development across the sector.

Across the programme, themes explored included heat pump integration, hydrogen, industrial clusters, flexibility, and severe weather impacts, illustrating how diverse technologies and system challenges can be brought together within a single digital framework. The discussions reinforced the value of cross disciplinary collaboration between academia and industry in addressing the challenges of the energy transition.

The Ensign team would like to thank all speakers and attendees for their engagement and contributions, which made the event a success. Further progress will be shared at future events as the project continues to develop and deliver.
